Welcome to the Fibre Arts Take Two, June 2021 Newsletter.
As Winter arrives to the Southern Hemisphere we were reminded that the Solstice has already arrived and passed. With this giving of new light the days will be longer, but we still have a ways to go before the sweet smell of spring. It's not in our nature to sit still and even though we are on a short break from the live Friday Feature Artist interviews as I write this newsletter we are currently working on our next release and first from the UK, editing our latest US artist and preparing to film on the beautiful Camano Island in Seattle.
Saying all that Daniel and I most certainly can't do it on our own and would like to introduce you to our wonderful Community Liaison, Ursula.
Ursula helps us in so many ways and we couldn't think of anyone we would trust more with our students. We asked Ursula recently why she loves working with the FATT team...
"As my role allows me to interact with the Fibre Arts Take Two community and students on a daily basis through the different Facebook groups and page, I am so blessed to be exposed to the awe inspiring, unique and adventurous pieces that people are creating daily. Each day when I log in, I know I will be seeing amazing pieces that people have created out of the most unexpected materials. I love that this community is like no other in that ideas, experiences and teachings are freely shared with no expectation in return.
This community inspires me daily to look at my environment around me in a different way."
What beautiful words and gratitude! You can see why we like her :)
Whether you're in a heatwave in the USA or in lockdown in Sydney we look forward to connecting and sharing the wonderful world of Fibre and Mixed Media art with you.
Thank you for being part of our community.
Take Care and Live Creative! Ang and the team at Fibre Arts Take Two
Well it sure was a full calendar of Friday Feature Artists this season.
We had some immensely talented artists from such a wide variety of genres. One of which was Shona Wilson who provided us with an insight into her 30 years of experience working on ephemeral pieces that take your breath away. She also showed us that not all art needs to be permanent and as the art comes from the earth so to it returns.
As we take a break for the School Holidays the next season of talented Friday Feature Artist will be back in mid July. Tune in live each Friday and keep informed of upcoming artists, you can even watch the replays anytime through the Fibre Arts Take Two Facebook Page and YouTube channel.
Don't forget to tell us who you would like to see during the next Friday Feature Artist season?
June sees the next release of the popular Inspired by By Nature - Exploring Mixed Media with Tara Axford.
With over 25 years of design experience working as a designer and magazine art director, Tara is excited to share what she has learned including the principles of design and composition that holds many people back.
Tara is such an incredible teacher that puts the student at ease and allows them to find pockets of time to create.
Enrolments will be closing next Friday the 9th of July and you can find out more below. We are feeling very excited and privileged to be working with Cas Homes and getting the finishing touches on her new signature online course ready for you which will be released very soon. To be the first find out when join the pre-launch here.
As we outlined in our April Newsletter our Documentary featuring Artist Josephine Jakobi was selected as a finalist in the Makers' Film Festival which will be showing in September.
We were also thrilled to learn that Josephine's work will be featured in Cas Holmes new book, Embroidering the Everyday through Batsford Books!
Cas already knew of Josephine's work and gained further insights into her practice after watching our documentary before inviting Josephine to contribute.
How exciting! I can't help but feel a little proud that our very first documentary helped connect artists from opposite sides of the earth. Who knows where the seeds of this collaboration will lead next....
Living on the edge of the Colquhoun Forest at her forever home, Bungalook, Josephine’s focus is art, community and environmental curiosity which is increasingly centred around the Lake Tyres Estuary, which interestingly broke its sandbar with the ocean recently. A very precious event for the Lake Tyres indigenous community.
If you are looking to join an online community of like-minded international contemporary fibre and mixed media artists, look no further than the Fibre Arts Take Two Facebook Community.
Well, it has been a prolific month for our Community Group and one Artist that stood out to me was Jacqui Bakkers.
Jacqui Bakkers: " We came whirling out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust... The stars made a circle, and in the middle, we dance."
We wholeheartedly thank our regular contributors and the kind and generous nature of all our members.
